Big Do's or Little Do's...

Description

The first time I saw Tony Davidson was at the 'Six of the Best' lectures whilst I was at Uni, a series of lectures that seemed to have disappeared in the last couple of years... with some top talent presenting such as John Hegarty, Martin Lambie-nairn, Daljit Singh & Patrick Burgoyne, it was a mere bargain at just £5 to get in.

But here's something new, a nice little lecture by the infamous Tony D - if you haven't met him/ seen him before it's certainly worth a watch, the bulk of his presentation is a tribute to his Dad... as you'll see creative ingenuity certainly runs in the family...(Just click on the picture).

Guys, Don't you think it's about time you asked if you can have a job a w&k. Most people stay on placement for around three months, by that time you can usually get a general feel as to what the prospects are.

I'm pretty sure they've thought about that option.
Do you thinks it that simple anon 11.17... ?
especially at this given time...if you do you're an idiot.
Keep your heads down lads, make it that people don't see you as the placement team and your part of the furniture etc.... stay until they literally have to chuck you out. (if they do) which by the sounds of your blog seems they don't want to at the min.

From someone who was on placement for 6 months before getting hired.

I'm sure the know what they're doing.

Your not the first and wont be the last to say that

Anon @ 22:31 - Well then you don't have to watch it then do you. Pretty simple really.

Anon @ 12:23 - Cheers for the support, it's tough but we are trying to make ourselves as invaluable as possible and dig ourselves in a little deeper.

Anon @ 11:17 - We are trying believe me, if only it were as simple as you make it out to be. Perhaps it was for you? Care to share your experiences?

Guys I'm no super duper CSS coder but to sort your header out you might need to do one of two things.

1. Make the file of the image smaller no bigger than 40px should do it. In photoshop 'Save for web' and change it that way.

or...

2. Your header padding may be too much

this is what it is

#header .description {
margin:0 5px 5px;
padding:0 20px 15px;
max-width:700px;
text-transform:uppercase;
letter-spacing:.2em;
line-height: 1.4em;
font: normal normal 78% 'Trebuchet MS', Trebuchet, Arial, Verdana, Sans-serif;
color: #999999;
}

THIS IS WHAT IT SHOULD BE

#header .description {
margin:0 5px 5px;
padding:0 10px 15px;
max-width:700px;
text-transform:uppercase;
letter-spacing:.2em;
line-height: 1.4em;
font: normal normal 78% 'Trebuchet MS', Trebuchet, Arial, Verdana, Sans-serif;
color: #999999;
}

I might be totally wrong but the answer is something very close to these

Haha! Oh dear... It was actually supposed to be intentional.

The idea was so that you land on a plain page - much like you do with a landing page on a website... Then you can scroll down to the blog....

...but thanks. I'm in the process of designing a new banner anyway. A lot of blogs look quite cluttered when they first load up so hence the above. ^^

but iv'e already watched it - that's how i know i don't want to hear about his dad. I thought your blog was about your experiences and advertising.

a banner wont sort the clutter out

I know what site I'm on from the URL. Then you make me scroll down.

To make it less cluttered

1. Remove Previous thoughts, blogroll and creative inspiration

2. Widen the page and increase the line spacing

3. have three colours not 5

4. Make images bigger that would make it fresh I think. But hey what do I know?

Anon @ 23:13 - if you've seen it then it's not for you. There are probably people who haven't seen it, and may find it interesting, it's for them.

Anon @ 10.13 - Fair point. I was trying to do something a little different from the other blogs, if it's not working I can appreciate that. I've already considered a couple of the points you mentioned. For the most part the codes done, it will just take a little time for tweaks, it does need a good clean up though I agree. :)
Seems like you know a fair bit to me. Thanks.

If it feels right to stay somewhere for longer than the 3 month 'standard' people talk about - then stick around. If it doesn't feel right then don't.

Personally I think you guys are doing the right thing - it's all very well popping from one placement to the next, but if you feel part of an agency team somewhere, then I say work on becoming an important part of that team - then force they agencies hand a little without demanding anything.

Some may view it as putting all your eggs in one basket, but if you are prepared for it all to come crashing down at a moments notice (not that it will hopefully) and you have a back up plan, then stay put and become invaluable.

It would be nice to think that when it comes to finding a job, placement teams could call the shots. But we young teams just don't have the work or experience to back up a 'hire me or im offski' attitude. Especially when there are a million other teams out there also looking for jobs.

Keep on truckin. Pike
