It's a 'Swoosh' not a 'tick'...

Things have gone in an unexpected direction this last week. We received some good news that a project we've been working on for the last few weeks has got the initial nod from the powers that be (as for the brand - the clue is in the picture). So... we're currently wading through the initial stages of production. Towards the end of last week we flashed a script in front of a few carefully selected directors, they seemed excited about the potential of the concept and we're just in the process of getting first batch of treatments back.

It suddenly seems a little strange being on the flip side of the ideas process, although we're still very much in control of what happens - it's nice to see how a Director can take our thoughts and run with them. All of a sudden you are faced with having to do it for real, that floating thought needs to be grounded both in a technical and conceptual way and suddenly everything comes out of the woodwork. Cue the production process.

I must say it's all very exciting.

It's now looking like we're going to be staying at Wieden's for the duration of the shoot, but in the meantime we'll hopefully tackle a couple of other briefs, see if we can latch onto something else.

ohhhh

you must be making trouser tents?

First a pitch win.

Then the Fairtrade published work.

Now this...

I hear job offers on the horizon, or it could just be tinnitus.

Well done though

Firstly - I'm not sure if that was said with a slight hint of sarcasm? Was it?

I would love a job offer - ha! We are trying believe me...

On the contrary Mr Mike.

No sarcasm was intended, after all sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.

My comment was sincere.

I know pay seems to be a taboo subject, and i hope this question doesn't sound rude. How much do you guys get paid as a placement team?

At the moment i'm on placement for no pay at all, this reason has forced me to leave my placement. Need a bit of advice on this subject.

Cheers.

Its against the law not to be paid. No contracts are needed to be paid. If you provide a service back (ie provide ideas) you are classed as a "worker". So therefor it is illegal if a company doesnt pay you unless you are a student. otherwise you can get the government to investigate the company. There is no excuse not to get the National Minimum Wage at any company.

Working for free is slave labour.

Unless you really like the place and there is a chance of job, otherwise I would walk.

Bills, rent etc don't pay themselves and night jobs could compromise where you really want to be.

At the very least travel and lunch costs should be offered.

I've earned less than £200 and more than £400 a week..

It's all very well saying it's illegal to not get paid - but the fact is people are willing to work for nothing and if you don't take it someone else will. it's dog eat dog. Saying that you should get at least travel and lunch paid. Most placements pay £200 pw some up to £350

If anyone from WK is reading this... I hope you are... give them a JOB!!!!

If the recessions over it's fine to hire.

If it's not then they are cheap labour!

@Anon 10:08 R.E. pay

If you drop us an email we'll gladly chat about it.

Generally though placement wages are a little above minimum wage. which works out about £50 per day.

There is better - there is worse. My personal view is that if a company is unwilling to pay you at all, then they are unlikely to hire you. Placement wage doesn't exactly make a huge dent in a companies expenditure.

We've had a couple of offers for placements where they have offered to cover travel and to be honest it's just not feasible. Especially if you're not living at home and you have bills to pay.

You need to take what you can get in some circumstances but it's often a personal viewpoint.
If you haven't got enough to live on... it's probably not worth doing - Unless there really is a chance of a job - or its an amazing place that could improve you as a creative, In my opinion anyway.

There will always be someone willing to work for free but good companies hopefully wouldn't exploit that...

@ Anon from Wieden's....

Aw, come on... don't hide away :) It's like a mystery dating service or something...
