D&AD New Blood 2008

Roll on the 23rd - 25th.

Why you ask? Incase you missed the title it's D&AD's New Blood Exhibition.

For those of you who don't know what it's all about here's the gist of it:

"It's a showcase of the best new creative talent. Over 100 college and university courses teaching design, advertising, digital media, visual communications and related crafts fields exhibit the work of their best graduates".

A few of us from up here in Lincoln have been asked to exhibit on behalf of our degree course, BA (Hons) Creative Advertising. It's a big honour so we're pretty chuffed.

The event runs from 10:00am - 4.00pm @ Earl's Court, Brompton Hall, London, SW5 9TA.

If there's any other details we'll let you know!

The 2007 highlights can be found here

Portfolio Night 6 Photos

Just thought we'd give everyone a little heads up - all the photographs from Portfolio Night 6 are up on the the website they can be found here

Some pretty funny ones and bonus points if you can spot both Phil and I - there's quite a few for some reason, it brings back all the feelings from that night!

Word gets about at NABS.

'Ad of the Month'

The wonderful people at NABS have given Phil and I the opportunity to select June's Ad of the Month for 2008. There were a few restrictions, it had to be print and from the last 4 weeks or so.

We have chosen AMV BBDO's most recent brand work for the Economist. Specifically, the 'Balance' execution. It was not an easy decision to make but 'Balance' was our final decision.

AD - Tim Riley & CW - Paul Cohen

AMV BBDO's beautifully crafted artwork & our reasons of choice can be seen displayed on the wall of the NABS reception for the month of June.

Please feel welcome to leave us some feedback.

Become the Interest.

If you've ever really wondered just how to stop interrupting what people are interested in and become said interest, I think Duval Guillaume are spot on here.

Check out the TV spot here

How many times have you accidently dialled a number in your phonebook without knowing it? A few i'm guessing. The clever chaps at Duval Guillaume in association with the Belgian League for the Blind have picked up on something from everyday life - a truth, that could help to assist blind, visually impaired and partially sighted people from the daily obstacles they face.

The site is only available in Dutch or French

Enter a blind call - It's all pretty simple really, you add the number '070 22 22 30' to your phonebook under the contact name: 'A Blind Call' and next time you accidentally call the first addressee in your phonebook it donates the proceeds of the call (A maximum €0.75 - I might add) to the Belgium League for the Blind. Clever huh?

The whole campaign is anticipated to run until the end of the year 31-12-2008, so do the League for the blind and 'Aarron'* a favour!

*Aarron being a likely candidate for the first contact in your phonebook.

Portfolio Night 6

Ok, so a little later than expected - but now university is practically finished here is the first post, and what a topic to start on - PORTFOLIO NIGHT 6.

The whole evening is still a bit hazy - it all happened so fast

Upon arrival we walked in through JWTs revolving doors, this is where the first signs of nervousness started to set in, the agency itself is very impressive and glamourous. Queued up to get our passes and vouchers for the free drinks - A definite must for settling the nerves.

Everyone was anxious by the looks on their faces, up the stairs and straight to the bar. The nice weather urged us to sit outside under the JWT branded umbrellas, minute by minute more and more people followed out into the garden with these mysteriously different coloured badgers, we were the blue no.2s - so we figured whatever they meant we were at least in the middle. We sat with the only two guys from Southampton Solent (Top guys) and being as Phil and I were the only two from the University of Lincoln it felt to meet new people in the same situation as us.

A couple of free beers later and an early start that day meant that everyone was pretty merry and conversation was flourishing. It was so comforting to see so many creatives in our position in one place - equally a little discomforting knowing we were all going for the same jobs! Once everyone was fully relaxed and settled in, the call came, everyone piled downstairs to listen to the opening speech.

the infamous London PN6 film was played, followed by a nervous laughter from the crowd. 'Am I really a 'Talentless Twat?' (The film can be found here)

15 minutes was the alloted time for each Creative Director - everyone in attendance knew this was the cut off point although some continued a little longer. 15 minutes to sell your soul and all of your efforts to the CD of choice. The system of moving straight to the next CD in the line sooner seemed to fly out of the window as aspiring advertisers competed for their desired choice.

Contacts, recommendations, opinions, advice and a few friendly faces later we had a lot to take in. Who would have known that in your first attendance of portfolio night so much could happen.  So many new friends, contacts and potential avenues - well worth the train journey home even if we didn't arrive back until 2.30 am!

Mike.
