Happy World Book Day

I LOVE BOOKS.
A little thought I had - and since it's World Book Day it seemed like a good time...

and if you're wondering where the inspiration came from... it was a journey to work last week.

Map-vertising...

Here's a little idea for the Map wizards that are Google Maps.

Google have photographed all of the streets of London so you can navigate in Google Street view...
Along these roads you will see 48 sheet billboards, Bus stop adshels & various other advertising canvases.

Why not sell this as a 'digital advertising space?'

I'm not sure of the legalities, but generally if you've taken a photo you own the rights to said shot, surely it's up to Google what they put in their 'photos'... or is it?

Take this Powerade billboard at London Bridge for example... Naturally, advertising space expires with time, but when Google Maps logged all of the street view shots Powerade was occupying the space and as a result has become timeless. Surely, Google has the power to replace these spaces with whatever they like - or is it up to the Media space owners like JC Decaux or Clear Channel to keep them updated?

I'm not sure of the numbers here but I'd guess thousands of people glimpse at street view everyday... It's probably worth a shout. Maybe you could buy the space on the most visited route on Street View or something...

Putting it to good use...

I was walking down Leonard Street, over in those Shoreditch parts the other day and I noticed this. It's on the side of a building site and I guess it's where people have scrawled various tags and the building firm has painted over them, so it doesn't look abandoned and a bit of a sh*thole.

The thing is, I actually quite like it in a weird way. I wondered if there was an opportunity for the likes of Dulux or similar to team up with someone like Matt from MWM Graphics (who I noticed in France last year - and who's work is stunning) and make something amazing out it... all in one colour but varying tones. That way people would be less inclined to graffiti all over it and the building company would give some people something nice to look at.

I've just Flickr'ed the Bean...

I thought it was funny. it is, isn't it?

LATEST: I've sent them a message to see if they want to start a campaign of Flickr visitors' snap shots as a pseudo-online campaign/ promotion.

Now available to buy...

AWOOOOOOOOGA!! //

Not that anyone uses external cams nowadays, but a good idea all the same.

Online vs. Offline...

A little idea I've been playing around with for sometime... there's a huge focus on getting the real world into digital... which I'm all for, but what about the other way around? The like of Last.fm & Spotify have a huge online presence but surely they could benefit from offline targeting?

Benefits over a common jukebox:

Endless playlist & track selections
Spotify could install these for free, but gain a fair bit of PR as the no.1 source of music.
Imported playlists from home via mobile / USB or bluetooth
DJ Nights - playlist themed nights.
In record stores, to preview music.

**edit limitless

Thoughts, issues & debates welcome.

Why...

Sorting through the 'bottom drawer' of ideas. Found this little beaut that I knocked up a while ago.

Bumper Post #3

Well, I am obviously getting a little bit carried away today... It's a Sunday after all. Being as i've shared something random & something positive, I'd thought I would highlight something creative...

This has got to be one of my favourite ideas of late, practical, clever and witty - if you ignore the names of the t-shirts :D ha ha. Jokes aside, her names Chloe Coulson, she specialises in Graphics & Product Design and she's pretty good by the looks of things!

UTTERLY JEALOUS - Nice work Chloe.

I Found it here... but you can find her website here, and it's quite nice in my opinion.

Lose Yourself...

The Cinema.

A great place to get away from things, switch off from distractions, kick back with some pop corn & a drink. You can almost lose yourself...

*Excuse the joke*

Many an ad book has said when you go stale on a brief you're trying to crack, nip off to the cinema, give yourself a validated break - it's a nice place to catch up on big screen ads, admire other peoples work and refresh your brain into thinking differently. I love watching films, they have the same pretense as ads, but where as an ad has to keep you for seconds, a film must keep your for hours. Pretty impressive challenge if you ask me; although an ad has to communicate all the emotion, build up and the message in a mere fraction of the time - even more impressive in my opinion.

Cheesy Pose # 1

If you're looking for some inspirational humour then check out Wall-E. Phil and I checked it out last week - well worth the time, even if there is no spoken words for the first 30 odd minutes of the film - you wouldn't even notice. Wall-E isn't your thing - there's plenty more on to fulfill your needs.

Cheesy Pose # 2

Go to the cinema!!!!
